Interview With Andrea Holton Winner of Cinefern Film Award and Competition

The Spark or The Fuel a Film Directed by Andrea Holton won Best Writer of the Film award at Cinefern Film Award and Competition's December 2019.

The Film is about A dark comedy about a couple breakdown in a remote area, unaware the locals all look familiar.


Director/Writer/Producer Andrea Holton has been supporting Actors & Filmmakers since 2009. She has a working knowledge of the film industry and its creative processes. Andrea started her creative journey working behind the scenes and occasionally in front of the camera. However Andrea enjoyed the challenge of wardrobe, overseeing costume design & continuity, which lead her to becoming a Film Director. The Film PERCEPTION awarded Andrea with a Nomination ‘Best First-Time Director’ 2018 AltFF Alternative Film Festival Toronto and ‘Best Director’ Winner 2019 for The Spark or The Fuel. As Producer, Andrea has supported Web series, several short films & Features. Her own films have generated a multitude of film laurels Wins, Official selection, a semi-finalist and nominations here in Australia and internationally. Andrea now runs a film company with long term friend Bruce Robinson- Films From Girt.

Interview With Andrea Holton

Q: What is the basic Idea Behind the film?

Andrea Holton: The idea was created by Bruce Robinson who won an award for ‘Best Writer’ at Cinefern.


Q: How do you handle the Pre-Production, and Post Production?

Andrea Holton: We work closely as a team and the starting point is an idea that interests us normally something a little querky. We are lucky to work with Brad Gibb who is a highly professional camera operator and editor. Importantly funds, most projects have been self- funded with a few generous backers.


Q: What do you do to stay calm during Production of the film?

Andrea Holton: I work with a very tight team and have been working with them for several years, so it always is a happy and calm set.


Q: What sort of stories excites you?

Andrea Holton: Anything different, unusual and unexpected.


Q: Do you think all the good stories have already been made into a movie?

Andrea Holton: No


Q: While casting for your film you prefer to cast a well known face or any new face which fit the character?

Andrea Holton: I’m happy to find those hidden gems, it’s hard to not use the same actors for projects but I’m always looking for new professionals.


Q: What is the most enjoyable thing about Production of the film?

Andrea Holton: I personally love the filming process and enjoy the experience.


Q: What is the best possible way to promote your film when you are on a tight budget?

Andrea Holton: Enter into local film festivals most local festival offer a discount or free entry to locals.


Q: When your next film is coming and what is it about?

Andrea Holton: We are looking at a feature and pilot season.


Q: What advice do you want to give to the new and upcoming filmmakers?

Andrea Holton: Believe in yourself andbuild up knowledge, offer your time to small projects, meet other film creatives at local film festivals and screenings.
